Change of scenery

Yesterday my father treated us all to a time at a local indoor pool in Paris. We hadn't been there since he visited 9 months ago and treated us there as well. The kids have occasionally mentioned how much they enjoyed it, so they were thrilled to go back.

It was a fun time of splashing around in 3 different pools there, as well as having lunch on site. It was physically relaxing and a definite change of pace. Right now, it's not realistic to take a trip away, at least until my father returns to the U.S. One retreat center in Normandy offered us 2 nights at half price, so we may go sometime.

My wife had her first appointment this morning with the counselor at the hospital where our daughter was born still-born. We're so thankful that they care very well for the families of the 5% of the deliveries that don't go well. She'll be going every week, which should help her processing of the bereavement. We'll also be taking our kids individually, as this counselor expertise with children going through bereavement.

This afternoon I'll be going to the Centre Evangélique de Lognes, an annual conference where many of the works, denominations, and missions of the evangelical Protestant Francophone world gather for 3 days each November. I missed it last year due to being in the U.S. for my mom's memorial service. It's a good time for me to see some friends whom I only see once a year at this event. I'll probably do some Christmas shopping for books for the kids as well.

But now it's time to drop my son off back at school for the afternoon.
