Greater faith

Yesterday we watched the DVD "Prince Caspian" as a family. We used some Christmas present gift money to purchase it, as we all enjoyed "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe."

Lucy, the youngest of the 4 children in the stories, is an example of the childlike faith that God enjoys seeing. In the 2nd story, while her oldest brother Peter is trying to fight the Telmarines with human wisdom, strength, and strategy, Lucy is looking for Aslan the Lion. She seeks him and sees him when her siblings don't.

One song that we sang on Sunday had a line about "God saving us from our projects" (translation from French). Certainly, Proverbs talks about the wisdom of having godly counsel and planning. But it also talks about how God intervenes in our plans, as well as to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and not leaning on our own understanding.

I certainly need a renewal of a childlike faith in 2009. There sometimes feels like a tension between the busyness of life with 3 young children in a busy city with finding time to seek after God. It sometimes seems like it would be easier to do for a single person in a monastery in the countryside. But it must be possible to do in any situation, if one is able to carve out the time and space in the midst of the noise and activity. We'll see how this plays out in 2009.

We enjoyed having 5 children (from 4 families) and 4 mothers at our 2nd Christmas cookie bake contact event 2 days ago. It was good to have this connect time with these families. We have 5 kids who have confirmed their presence for this Friday for the final cookie bake.
