Palm Sunday & Egg coloring party #1

This is definitely a busy period for us, at least until through Easter Sunday.

On Saturday, our elder daughter had a dance recital. Because of the large number of friends and family members of the dance class students who wanted tickets, there actually were 2 recitals, with an hour between them. Our daughter danced very well. As with some other recent events, we felt very much a part of the community of dancers and their parents who cheered for all the performances, whether our particular kids were in them or not.

Sunday morning we got caught up in traffic related to the annual Paris marathon. We forgot about this event until it was too late. Had we remembered, we would have taken the subway right away. When we realized that we would only get to the worship service in time for the 2nd half, we returned home. We ended up purchasing some branches at a nearby Catholic church, then returning home, reading the biblical account of Jesus' Triomphal Entry to Jerusalem, and acting out the story.

One valuable thing about having children is that it forces us to read and reread the stories with different perspectives. My elder daughter is asking lots of why questions these days about life. She's age 5 1/2. My wife asked the children why they thought Jesus rode on a donkey. I hadn't really thought of that question before. We thought that one reason was to show His humility. He didn't come in on a mighty stallion, but rather on a lowly donkey. I thought of the movie "Shrek 2" when Donkey gets changed into a mighty stallion.

Later on Sunday we hosted our first of 3 Easter egg coloring parties. Besides our 3 kids, we welcomed 11 children from 10 families. It was just my wife and me and a friend whose daughter was attending who supervised the event. We were tired at the end, but very pleased with the stronger bonds that his event helped provide, both with the kids and their families.

We've got 10 signed up already for Wednesday's event, so we'll probably have 12-15. I recruited a couple of other helpers for this day.
